Like any good partisan Democrat, I keep an eye on "the opposition," including straight GOP blogs like RedState and McCain-Shills-In-Democratic-Clothing blogs such as Alegre's Corner. Needless to say, occasionally these blogs get more than a little silly.
Such is the case with RedState's latest email to its members, informing them that they finally located American flags at the Democratic convention.
So yeah -- that CPR training I went to three weeks ago? I got there and it turns out that I had never signed up for it, even though I would have sworn, and even bet my retirement, that I had in fact signed up for it. So my CPR training is today.
Even so, there's no reason we can't share a few laughs, a few ironic statements, and a few well-chosen ITEMS!
John McCain can't seem to get his act together. Maybe it's time they switched to somebody more ... seasoned?

Hey everyone! So .. how's the week been? Anyone put out any embarrassing ads? Anyone taking a vacation? Nobody got caught having an affair and lying to the public? Good.
Me, I'm just glad that it's cooled off. After a week of 90* temperatures, it's now overcast and low 70s, and I'll take it with both hands. This makes for a great weekend of cool walks, light non-agonizing housework, and of course, a few ITEMS!
Hola, true believers! I'm getting CPR and First Aid training this morning, so GOOD MORNING DAILY KOS, WEEKEND EDITION is an hour earlier as a result.
And all the better, because we're in that time of the summer when the mornings are cool, the days are getting just a bit shorter, and the heat of the afternoon is unbearable and oppressive. All the more reason to get your day started just a little bit earlier -- maybe to take a walk, maybe to get some chores done, or if you've had a hard week (and who hasn't, really), to open the windows, listen to the birds and the traffic, and enjoy some ITEMS!
This week, Obama spoke in Berlin at the Brandenburg Gate while McCain spoke at a German wurst haus in Columbus, Ohio.
Oh yes, there's just a bit of a mismatch there. But don't underestimate McCain. As my wife pointed out, with that speech McCain has locked up the demographic that considers the Old Town Country Buffet to be "ethnic dining."
If I were the GOP, however, I would ask McCain to step aside for Jimmy Breaux.
So yeah, I'm not at Netroots Nation. Between paying off old debts and finishing my education, I decided to sit out this year. That, and I didn't want to take the chance of running into Larry Johnson and being sucked into his moron generation field.
But, don't mourn for me, fellow bloggers. It's 60 degrees here, cool and comfortable, and I'm heading to the coast with my wife to celebrate our 2nd anniversary. And besides, this means that I'm not having to sit on the hard floor of the convention center to bring you these delicious ITEMS!
So --- yeah. I bet some of you are wondering what happened last week. Well, I was in and around Chicago and Indianapolis visiting friends and family, and part of that was getting my butt to the Indy 'burbs on Saturday morning. I had enough time to post a "phone it in and see you next week," but in all the excitement it escaped me.
Sorry folks. To make up for it, I have a heaping helpful of colorful, amusing, and always informative ITEMS!
Hello, everyone. It's summer now, and it's hotter than hell here in Portland: 96 degrees and sunny for the weekend. When the heat is this unbearable, you do what you can to stay cool, from sitting in air conditioning and drinking plenty of water to putting ice on your feet and neck. So come on kids, and get the cool, soothing, refreshing ITEMS!
You'd think I'd feel better this week. After all, Barack Obama got the endorsement of Al Gore, my brother's starting a start-up, I'm doing some machine learning work pro bono, my wife's post-graduation job search is moving along, and after all, it's now summer.
JEERS to hanging up on us. Once again, the Democratic leadership fights tooth and nail to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory. Even after hearing the most shocking testimony by insiders, the House might as well have just passed a bill today with two words for the phone companies: "FREE PASS."
So, I don't have a video of McCain doing something stupid this week. What I have instead is a request.
Could Senator Clinton, Reverend Wright, Senator McCain, and their respective spokespeople, please, please, please, pretty please go through the next two weeks without saying something else that is catastrophically dumb to the point that it makes my brain ache something awful? Please? I'm already low on IQ points as it is; I don't need to lose more trying to understand what kind of person says that sort of thing.
The military cannot automatically discharge people because they're gay, a federal appeals court ruled Wednesday in the case of a decorated flight nurse who sued the Air Force over her dismissal.
The three judges from the 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals did not strike down the military's "don't ask, don't tell" policy. But they reinstated Maj. Margaret Witt's lawsuit, saying the Air Force must prove that her dismissal furthered the military's goals of troop readiness and unit cohesion.
It's not over for the ban on gays in the military, but its days are, as the article says, probably numbered. More on why below the cut.
Two-term conservative Republican and reliable Bush sycophant Gordon Smith has been running ads in Oregon claiming to be, I kid you not, the candidate of change.
Fortunately, he's been getting the smackdown right back.
I'm really looking forward to kicking his ass in November.
