Sho 'Nuff is dead

Fri Aug 22, 2008 at 07:06:51 PM PDT

Julius Carry, who played the iconic Sho 'Nuff, the Shogun of Harlem, in "The Last Dragon", passed away. He was a Chicago theatre actor in the 70's, and after gaining fame as Sho 'Nuff appeared as a regular on a number of television programs.

I know this isn't about politics, but it affected me and I'm sad and just need to let it out. I couldn't care less about who Barack picks now. I just feel like eating my spicy noodle take out and watching "The Last Dragon" and barfing.

My little brother and I watched that movie OVER and OVER again when we were kids. I loved it, and really it was ahead of its time. I have heard rumors that Taimak who played Leroy Green wants to do a sequel, and I hope they pay tribute to the best villain in the history of motion pictures. (Frickin' Darth Vader has nothing on Sho 'Nuff).

Okay I tell y'all what: I promise that in exchange for letting me vent here, I promise to splice scenes from the movie to make a You Tube video supporting Senator Obama's quest for "the glow" of the presidency.

"Am I the meanest? Sho 'Nuff! Am I the prettiest? Sho 'Nuff! Am I the baddest mofo low down around this town? SHO 'NUFF! Who am I? Sho 'Nuff! WHO AM I?! SHO 'NUFF! I can't hear you! KIA! The Shogun... of Harlem."

God have mercy this sucks.

Obama Hates Vegans?

Tue Jan 15, 2008 at 05:53:54 PM PDT

Barack Obama was an employee of Baskin Robbins. Its founder, and the man Obama ultimately owes that job to, is one Irv Robbins. In 1947, Irv and his wife Irma gave birth to John Robbins; John Robbins turned against the dairy industry to advocate a plant-based diet in a popular and influential series of books that some have said, "epitomized vegan greatness."

So why did Barack Obama choose to work part-time eating Ice Cream for a company that's clearly been founded by a man who gave birth to a child who later advocated for animal rights?

It's important to state right off that nothing in Obama's record suggests he harbors anti-Vegan views or agrees with The Baskin-Robbins Corporation when it comes to their opposition to veganism. Instead, as Obama's top campaign aide, David Axelrod, points out, Obama often has said that he and the companies he had summer jobs at in his youth sometimes disagree. Opposition to herbivores, Axelrod told me, is one of those issues.

Huckabee's speech & I want him as the GOP's candidate

Thu Jan 03, 2008 at 07:49:21 PM PDT

Huckabee's giving his victory speech - I'm watching it on MSNBC right now - and I hope with all my might that he ends up as the GOP's candidate for 2008. Two words: Chuck. Norris.

Republican state legislator growing hemp

Mon Jan 15, 2007 at 07:22:09 PM PDT

Upon writing this diary I conducted one last search - had an itchy feeling which I couldn't just attribute to my hemp shirt - and I found an excellent diary by a gnostic that reported on this topic. I feel this story deserves another go, so I'm publishing anyway. I will take it down if asked.

And please, go read a gnostic's diary - it has some really choice info and quotes.

A couple of days back Meteor Blades posted a great diary about the war on drugs. Among other things, he discussed the history of hemp farming in our country, and the motivations behind its banning in the 1930's.

Today the AP reported about a North Dakota state legislator - a Republican no less - applying to become the nation's first licensed hemp farmer.

Submit your questions for the IL-06 Debate

Tue Oct 17, 2006 at 04:44:40 PM PDT

On Thursday, October 19th, Tammy Duckworth and Peter Roskam debate each other live on WBEZ 91.5.  Public radio has invited listeners to submit questions for the debate through their site, and I think we should take them up on the offer.  Keep reading for ideas.
