CA Fraudulent Voter Guide: ACTION ALERT

-- Re the fraudulent "voter guide" that REAPPEARS EVERY ELECTION --

In the final days before the election, the "Voter Information Guide for Democrats" hit 4 million mailboxes around California. On its cover was a smiling picture of Dianne Feinstein, and inside it recommended the Democratic ticket -- for the most part -- UNTIL you got to the propositions. Here, the slate FRAUDULENTLY recommended a NO vote on Proposition 87, the alternative energy bill that Bill Clinton endorsed and the anti-smoking bill (Prop 86). The slate was tailored to each district, and, for example, also recommended to San Diego voters the re-election of a local repuglican official. Tiny asterisks were all that betrayed the fact that these "endorsements" were bought-and-paid-for.

In a sense, combat is an ongoing act of valor on both sides. Soldiers giving their lives to defend their ideals and to protect their comrades-in-arms; their opponents doing exactly the same thing; cultures colliding. In the midst of mankind at our most destructive, sometimes these moments of nobility and heroic beauty can shine like a flare over the pitch battlefield.
Such a moment may have occurred today in Beit Hanuh, Gaza, where 15 Palestinian militants had been holed up in a local mosque overnight.
Spray your kids with poison, get a free videocamera
Thu Apr 07, 2005 at 06:09:18 AM PDT
Barbara Boxer threatened yesterday to oppose Stephen Johnson's nomination to EPA administrator. Boxer's ire was raised by Johnson's refusal to cancel a hairbrained scheme to spray homes of low income kids in Jacksonville, Florida with pesticides, to document how the poisons affect the development of the children.
Parents of 9-12 month olds are offered $900 and a videocamera if they will agree to participate in the project for two years. If they don't spray their homes with poison for the full two years, they don't get to keep the videocamera.
Christine Todd Whitman withdrew the original program, but the Agency put it on the back burner. Boxer wants it canceled completely.
Johnson however, appeared to have no objections to the study, and considered it all just a PR problem. He wants to keep the matter open for discussion.
BTW, the study is partially funded by the chemical industry.
Secret Cardinal appointment revealed
Mon Apr 04, 2005 at 11:49:56 PM PDT
The Pope appointed a secret Cardinal a few years ago, using a tradition called "in pectoris," or close to the breast. In the past, these secret appointments have been made to protect the lives of the recipients -- in totalitarian regimes, say China, North Korea.
Would anyone familiar with the tradition care to offer their wisdom? Is he now officially a cardinal? Why no announcement? Would he be a member of the Conclave to elect the new Pope?

Senator Byrd Was Right
Fri Mar 04, 2005 at 09:17:32 PM PDT
Sen. Byrd's comments re: Hitler have struck a nerve with the self-righteous talking heads and puffed up repugs. The Senator condemned the so-called "Nucular" Option, of changing the Senate rules to prevent filibusters on judicial nominees. Repugs plan to disarm the senate Democrats completely, and ram through a slate of judges that will be a curse on this country for many years to come. Sen. Byrd compared the maneuver to the blank check Hitler got from the Bundestag to fundamentally re-shape German society.
There are more than a few similarities between the rise of Hitler and Bush. In fact, the semblances are chilling. They are set forth by Thom Hartmann's excellent column "When Democracy Failed - 2005."

Jaded about Journalism
Fri Feb 25, 2005 at 10:27:14 PM PDT
I once had a lot of respect for journalists, newspapermen especially; I always thought that writing for a living was a noble profession; that the press was truly the Fourth Estate -- the guardians of democracy, that the founders of this country viewed as a check & balance against the 3 official branches of government.
Somehow that idea has become "quaint."
In just the past few years, something important has gotten lost. The once-proud profession of journalism (think Woodward & Bernstein) has now become utterly tainted. Once-great newspapers have become little more than corporate propaganda mills. We know Armstrong Williams was on the Whitehouse payroll. It begs the question: Was Judy Miller or any of her ilk who lied us into war also on the Whitehouse payroll?
