CBS cuts off Lieberman's "country first" line

Wed Aug 13, 2008 at 07:48:20 PM PDT

Just another example of how much the MSM wants little Johnny Boy to win (can someone please explain why??)  I just watched a clip of the CBS evening news talking about "changes" in the McCain campaign, where they showed Joe lieberman's famous little speech at a McCain Rally:

In my opinion, the choice could not be more clear, between one candidate John McCain who's had experience, been tested in war and tried in peace. Another candidate who has not.  Between one candidate, John McCain who's always put the country first, worked across party lines to get things done, and one candidate who has not.

Poor Coverage on the Poor

Thu Aug 07, 2008 at 01:28:50 PM PDT

Earlier this week, "CBS Evening News" anchor Katie Couric told viewers that the state of California was planning to cut the jobs and wages of state workers. Of the more than 200,000 workers who were to be fired or see their wages reduced, a grand total of zero appeared or were quoted on Couric’s program. No discussion with those workers who are soon to be fired about their probable descent into poverty. No chat with those facing lower wages about what it will be like to struggle among the working poor. Nada.

The War Against Workers

Tue Aug 05, 2008 at 10:30:43 AM PDT

Cross-posted at MotherTalkers.

Traveling across the country this summer, I have come across people who say they will not vote for Sen. Barack Obama for all kinds of bizarre reasons, including the false premise that he is a Muslim.

But I paused when a dear family member, who is a manager at Walmart, said he has warned his employees that if they vote for Obama, who will "force" them to join a union, they will be out of a job. Apparently, Walmart has urged all its managers to issue this dire warning to their employees.

Not the Bat Signal , the KO Signal

Tue Jul 29, 2008 at 10:17:01 PM PDT

Effective communication of message is of fundamental importance in any political campaign, providing you have a good message. While we are extremely effective reaching a certain audience, there is a larger audience we miss entirely. These are what I think can be fairly called victims of the traditional media. Our most effective messenger, I might say only effective messenger, in this realm has been Keith Olbermann. And so, for when danger looms in perilous politcal times, I propose the KO Signal.

New Study: MSM Bias Scorching Obama, Easy on McCain

Sun Jul 27, 2008 at 10:19:06 AM PDT

The LA TIME has a story about a recent study that found the media hating on Obama far more than McCain.  "This Week" was an absolute Obama bash fest this morning, through-out the first part of Obama's trip the media was obsesed with what error will he make, what gaffe, in the second half of the week they were all about is he too confident?  The man can't do anything right according to them all while McCain had anohter week that would have endede anyone elses campaign.

CBS Katiegate revealed! It was just a promo for this! (w/poll)(UPDATED)

Fri Jul 25, 2008 at 07:37:17 AM PDT

I know, it seemed to inexplicable, how could a journalist of such stellar talent and unshakable credability do something so rancidly corrupt that it would shake the faith in unbiased reporting that Americans have had for years?!

But there was something we didn't know, a simple explanation that, once heard, clears everything up. It was a promo for CBS Films new Blockbuster film! I managed to get my hands on some promotional material which I scanned and uploaded. Check it out below the fold!

(Update)
I just wanted to say, if you want to steal this image and spread it around, please DO SO! It isn't just early morning people at the great Orange Satan that need a laugh.

How to fight media double standards: 1. Put somebody in charge

Fri Jul 25, 2008 at 07:11:40 AM PDT

An earlier diary of mine several weeks ago dealt with the realization that the media’s double standard must be target #1. I flatly reject the commonplace resignation about the damage that media dishonesty is causing to society through politics.

This diary is a discussion of why the Democratic Party should make appointing a National Democratic Media Secretary a matter of the highest priority, as foundation of a general offensive on antidemocratic bias in the media. The exclusive job of this person should be to deal with the NATIONAL media’s double standard. This position should be fully funded, senior, permanent, and full-time. It should deal proactively with all the 'gotcha' questions in the traditional media, and be the focal point for counterattacks on all the national media's distortions, and monitor and report on the state of the media's double standard.

Media in the Tank

Thu Jul 24, 2008 at 08:34:49 PM PDT

We have been listening to stories about a liberal bias in the MSM for years now. All the while we have been witnessing an MSM that has become  so afraid to be labeled as liberal, that they no longer can do their job. The Iraq war itself is the worst consequence of this situation. And I believe the coverage of the McCain campaign is the culmination of this phenomenon. While it is hard to get traction complaining about the MSM giving a pass to McCain on his plethora of gaffes, the recent CBS attempt to cover up one of McCain's more spectacular rewrites of history, rises to a new level. It's time to turn the tables and start doing some very loud intimidating of our own. The evidence now exists and it is incontrovertible. I would like to see KO start a new countdown, number of days since CBS and Katie Couric joined the McCain campaign.

Another John McCain Gaffe -- Iraq Was the First Major Conflict After 9/11

Thu Jul 24, 2008 at 12:50:47 PM PDT

There is one more John McCain gaffe that the media missed from the now famous CBS interview with Katie Couric.

This is the same interview in which McCain claimed the surge led to the Anbar Awakening, which is demonstrably false. But watch below for another gaffe when McCain says Iraq was the first major conflict after 9/11.

Questions for CBS News and Katie Couric

Wed Jul 23, 2008 at 12:25:00 PM PDT

A lot of the posts about the editing of Katie Couric's interview with John McCain seem to assume that CBS deliberately edited the piece to hide McCain's gaffe. But the fact that they posted the entire interview calls that assumption into question.

There may be other possibilities, equally, if not more, disturbing.

So, these are the questions I would ask CBS News and Katie Couric:

Ridiculous - CBS "defends" favorable McCain edit

Wed Jul 23, 2008 at 10:52:25 AM PDT

Cross-posted at Strategy 08.

CBS is in defense mode over its cut-and-paste McCain interview, where different answers were substituted for different questions.

"As all news organizations do with extended interviews, last night’s Obama and McCain interviews were edited to fit the available time and to give viewers a fair expression of the candidates' major differences,"  CBS spokeswoman Jennifer Farley emailed. "The full transcript and video were and still are available at cbsnews.com."

The problem is, of course, that they didn't simply edit the response, they cut in an entirely different answer.  They lied.  And they presented this lie to the American people as fact.

Help Me Find MSM Coverage of McCain/CBS Affair

Wed Jul 23, 2008 at 09:21:55 AM PDT

In my mind the McCain screwup on the Iraqi timeline is it's own story and CBS cutting the answer out and replacing it with another answer is completely unethical is another story.  ANd both are big stories, or should be. However, apart from KO on MSNBC, I cannot find a single MSM newsource that discusses either part of this.

so CBS struck a blow to ethics. wanna hit back?

Wed Jul 23, 2008 at 09:21:50 AM PDT

last night CBS struck a blow against honesty, integrity, and ethics in journalism.  here's how we hit back.

McCain Rewrites History, CBS Writes Off Integrity

Wed Jul 23, 2008 at 08:10:15 AM PDT

Katie Couric in a speech before the National Press Club, September 2007:

Couric took Rather to task for his reporting. "There were things in there that were quite egregious in terms of how it was reported," she said. "And sloppy work is sloppy work...They did not dot their I’s and cross their T’s when it came to that story...And our job is to get [it] right."

It's hard to figure out whose credibility is sinking faster: John McCain, who's apparently as unaware of recent history as he is of geography, or CBS, who covers up his ignorance for him.

First, a short primer:

2006----> The Anbar Awakening, in which Sunni tribes unite to resist Al Qaida.

2007----> Bush's troop surge

Enter Katie Couric, interviewing John McCain yesterday:

Couric Senator McCain, Sen. Obama says, while the increased number of U.S. troops contributed to increased security in Iraq, he also credits the Sunni awakening and the Shiite government going after militias. And says that there might have been improved security even without the surge. What's your response to that?

McCain: I don't know how you respond to something that is such a false depiction of what actually happened. Colonel McFarlane (phonetic) was contacted by one of the major Sunni sheiks. Because of the surge we were able to go out and protect that sheik and others. And it began the Anbar awakening. I mean, that's just a matter of history.

Well, it's just a matter of history if you live life in reverse, I guess. And yes, it's tough indeed to figure out how to respond to something that is such a false depiction of what actually happened, Senator McCain. But CBS figured out how to do it: just cut the inconveniently false portion out, as Keith Olbermann caught CBS doing last night.

Here's some masterful evidence presented by masterp2323:

Remember this is the same Katie Couric who confessed in the 2007 speech to the National Press Club to feeling "uncomfortable," and that somebody--certainly not her, but somebody with ... oh ... say ... a national media platform--ought to do something about the inevitable march to war back in 2003:

And I remember feeling, when I was anchoring The Today Show, this inevitable march towards war and kind of feeling like, ‘Will anybody put the brakes on this? And is this being properly challenged by the right people?’

One thing's become crystal clear: Couric isn't one of the "right people." And sloppy work is sloppy work. And oh, yeah. Someone once said it's your job to get it right.

(Hat tips to Daily Kos diarist rogereaton and Think Progress for publicizing this story.)

Will CBS make Katie offer an apology? or resign?

Wed Jul 23, 2008 at 06:51:00 AM PDT

It is no wonder CBS is last in the evening news.  I sure the hell don't watch it.  If this whole cover up had been an Obama cover up, we would hear about it for the next two weeks.  Is it my imagination or do Democrats have to run a flawless campaign while the GOP gets a free pass?

I have given up on watching almost all evening news, I randomly will watch the first 10 minutes of NBC to see what "Dumbed Down" America is being exposed to by the corporations and the Kool Aid they want the public to drink.  I have watched John McCain get away with gaffe after gaffe and nobody covers his incompetence and the fact that his mind has obviously slowed down (repectively) with his age.

John McCain has slowly erroded Obama's lead in the electoral math where Obama had almost a 100pt. electoral projected lead a couple of months ago.

The bottom line, the media is manipulating the public just like they have since George W. Bush won the first and second time, Just like they did when we went into Iraq, and just like they are now....
